ASSOCIAZIONE FAMIGLIA CABRINIANA

Non-profit organisation which supports the activities of the ‘Congregation of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus’ founded in 1880 by Saint Francis Cabrini. In recent years we have supported the mission in Ethiopia in particular, opened in 1999, in Dubbo 450 km from Addis Ababa in the region of Wolajta, one of the poorest.

Among the objectives and criteria for efficiency are the following:
  • Literacy: Construction of two nursery schools for the youngest children, the primary and secondary schools for the older children and literacy courses for the adults.
  • The Promotion of women: formation of groups of ‘Franceschine’, made up of 10 or 12 girls who are taught the most elementary norms of hygiene, fundamental for containing endemic illnesses such as malaria and typhus.
  • Adoption from a distance: The adopted children are effectively orphans or are part of large families; they are able to attend school and have sufficient meals and healthcare assistance.
  • The adoption of an elderly person: The elderly are often abandoned and disregarded also in sickness.
  • The centre for life:’Bambino Gesù’: is a house for recently born orphans and abandoned children, waiting for legal adoption.
  • The canteen for the poor: Every year when school closes (July and August) about 600 meals are prepared daily for children who would otherwise not be able to survive.
  • The provision of water: Indispensable for the population of the villages which surround Dubbo with the creation of wells in 2005 and 2009. We are supporting this project through the creation of water channels.
